The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced today that the agency will remove sediments accumulated in front of the ramp of the Westport Boat Launch on Lake Champlain in late October. The launch will be closed from Oct. 15 – Nov. 29. The removal of sediments will improve access for boaters who launch and retrieve boats during periods when the water is low.
DEC will close the boat launch, which is located off Champlain Avenue (Route 22), while work is underway. DEC expects work to begin after the Columbus Day holiday weekend and to complete the removal of sediments by the end of November.
The sediments will be dewatered at the boat launch site, tested for contamination, and disposed at a facility approved to accept the waste.
